Position Summary: The Office-Based Medical Assistant provides administrative support to the medical and clinical staff, which includes answering incoming calls, managing medication refill requests and utilizing software to document actions taken.
Essential Duties:
Enters a variety of information into the Electronic Health Record.
Answers phone calls from patients, physicians, and facilities regarding clinical items.
Send medical transcriptions (via fax or mail) to referring providers as needed.
Assesses medical and medical education needs of the patient and provides education as directed by the provider.
Reviews the provider's schedule throughout the day and prior to the start of shift to ensure patient flow.
Follows up on orders, labs and imaging as needed.
Obtains Prior Authorizations.
Manages medication refills.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma
One (1) year of experience as a medical assistant.
Must have reliable transportation for work, valid driver’s license, and insurance coverage for automobile.
Knowledge of medical terminology, and medical office software preferred.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
Must maintain a high level of patient confidentiality.
Must also be able to multi-task, be detail oriented with excellent follow-through.
Must remain flexible and work well with a team.
Ability to communicate effectively and establish/maintain positive working relationships with employees and other customers.
Excellent time management and organizational skills
