Position Summary
The Preservation Equipment Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining Preservation mechanical equipment. Fixing, servicing, setting up, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily based on mechanical principles. Inspects, maintains, and repairs Preservation Equipment of all sizes. Works on UHP Pumps, Airless Paint Pumps, Plural Component Pumps, Blast Pots, as well as other equipment used within the Preservation Department as directed by Supervisor. Must possess knowledge of general mechanics of the fore mentionedequipment. Must be good with a wide spectrum of tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Confers with operators and observes, tests, and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunction
- Disassembles machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs
- Examines parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear
- Repairs, replaces, adjusts, and aligns components of machinery and equipment
- Cleans and lubricates parts, equipment, and machinery
- Test-runs repaired machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs
- Fabricates replacement parts
- Welds to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment
- Orders or requisitions parts and materials
- Repairs and replaces electrical wiring and components of machinery
- Records repairs and tests equipment using various resources/support services
Education, Training and Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience required
- Experience in a marine environment is preferred
Skills/Technical Knowledge
- Excellent communication skills required
- Concentrationand attention to detail required
- Must be able to comprehend and follow occupational safety and health regulations, other state and federal regulations governing the ship repair and Company practices and procedures
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability work various shifts
Physical Demands
- The physical demands for this position require continual standing, walking and using fine motor skills for the operation of tools and machinery.
- Ability to lift, carry 50lbs. May require some lifting or assistance with heavy equipment.
- Occasionally requires twisting, turning, bending, climbing, and walking over uneven surfaces.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb.
Qualification/Requirements
- Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
- This position requires US Citizenship due to security clearance required for base access
- Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Must be able to successfully obtain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
- All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, physical test and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
- Valid State of Hawaii REAL ID-Compliant Drivers License in good standing or a valid U.S. Passport in addition to a valid Hawaii Drivers License, if you do not have a REAL ID-Compliant Drivers License, class 3 or higher
- Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift
