Title: Prescribed Fire Training Specialist (Program Associate IV)

Duties:
- Directly contribute to the research and education missions of Humboldt State University, Chico State University, and the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) through ecological and social applied research, adaptive management, and shared learning
- Engage in strategic planning, in partnership with the Co-Directors of Fire Management and UCCE Humboldts Fire Area Advisor, on needs in specific locations throughout California
- Monitor the status and development of Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs) across California and assist with State-wide in-person PBA meetings / trainings.
- Provide to the PBA groups: mentorship on PBA organizational structures; coaching on shared risk, liability, permitting, and building partnerships; guidance on strategic burn planning andburn plan developments; trainings, including live fire trainings, on communications, medical, pumps, engines, firing, holding, leadership and weather; mentor PBA members on the fireline.
- Plan strategic training exchange events (Cal-TREX), in partnership with PBAs focused on increasing local capacity and building momentum. Events may include classic TREX events, short cooperative trainings and sustained capacity-building technical support).
- Provide National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) trainings as Lead Instructor or Cadre, including Fire Operations, Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior, Fire Leadership Trainings, and Basic 32.
- In conjunction with the Communications and Marketing Program Associate, share resources and updates and connect with PBAs, community members, partners, and the public.
Requirements: MA in Fire Science, Fire and Ecology Management, Wildland Fire Management or closely related field and 4 years of experience as a wildland and prescribed burn firefighter with some experience in assisting, leading, and planning prescribed fire training on communications, medical, pumps, engines, firing, holding, leadership and weather
