About Us

The Childrens Center, a non-profit agency, is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young children, one family at a time. Our mission is to nurture and educate children and their families by providing opportunities for education, parenting support, and resources to families in our communities.

The Childrens Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no-cost services to qualifying families in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women, their partners, and children from birth to age 5. Child development, health, and family services are offered through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at-risk families.

About the Opportunity

The Children's Center is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our teaching team in Suffolk and Smithfield, VA! Our preschool program builds the strong academic foundation children need for future success through structured learning, creative play, and nurturing classroom environments.

Our classrooms are led by dedicated educators who value open communication with families and are passionate about supporting children's cognitive, emotional, and physical development.

What Our Teachers Do

• Implement our research-based Creative Curriculum that promotes discovery and exploration as a way of learning
• Lead structured classroom and playground activities appropriate for each developmental stage
• Maintain compliance with Virginia Licensing and Head Start/Early Head Start regulations
• Build healthy partnerships with families through direct communication and engagement
• Foster a safe, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment for all children

We Are Looking For Candidates Who

• Have 1-3 years of classroom experience and strong classroom management skills
• Hold CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
• Demonstrate flexibility with work hours and scheduling
• Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Are familiar with Virginia Licensing regulations

Current Open Positions

Floater

• Location: Suffolk & Smithfield
• Education Required: High School Diploma
• Pay Rate: $16.56/hour
• Schedule: Part-time, on-call as needed

Long-Term Substitute Teacher

• Location: Suffolk
• Education Required: High School Diploma
• Pay Rate: $17.26/hour
• Schedule: Full-time, 12 months

Head Start Teacher Assistant

• Location: Suffolk
• Education Required: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and ECE experience
• Pay Rate: $19.43/hour
• Schedule: Full-time, 9.5 months

Community Care Teacher

• Location: Suffolk
• Education Required: High School Diploma and ECE experience
• Pay Rate: $17.52/hour
• Schedule: Full-time, 12 months
