About the Role:
The Preschool Teacher creates a nurturing and engaging classroom where children build confidence, curiosity, and foundational academic and social-emotional skills. This role supports kindergarten readiness through play-based learning, intentional teaching, and strong relationships with children and families.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction:
- Plan and implement weekly and monthly developmentally appropriate curriculum
- Facilitate learning in literacy, early math, science, art, music, and dramatic play
- Create engaging, play-based learning experiences that promote curiosity and creativity
- Support social-emotional development through modeling and guided interaction
- Differentiate instruction to meet individual learning needs
- Encourage language development through storytelling, conversation, and print-rich activities
Classroom Environment & Safety:
- Maintain a safe, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom
- Supervise children using active and engaged supervision at all times
- Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and daily classroom safety checks
- Support self-help skills including hygiene, toileting, and independence
- Oversee safe and structured indoor and outdoor play
Observation & Documentation:
- Observe and document children’s developmental progress
- Maintain portfolios and Learning Genie documentation
- Support developmental assessments and share updates with families
- Track attendance, behavior notes, and required records accurately
- Communicate concerns or developmental needs to leadership
Family Engagement
- Build strong, positive relationships with families
- Provide regular updates on learning, behavior, and milestones
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences and developmental check-ins
- Offer guidance and resources to support learning at home
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all communications
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with assistants, aides, and classroom team members
- Support and mentor staff in classroom routines and expectations
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
Qualifications:
- 12 ECE units in Child Development required (including core courses)
- Experience with preschool-age children in a licensed setting preferred
- CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain
- Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
- Good communication, teamwork, and classroom management skills
