    Position Definition: Plans, organizes and implements educational and developmental programs and activities to promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of preschool age children. Creates a supportive experience where young children are cared for in an environment rich with sensory experiences, that is responsive to the child's individual needs, and that support and encourage self-expression.

    Experience and Training:

    • A teacher must be 18 years or older
    • Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalency certificate
    • A CDA, Associate Degree, or at least six (6) college credits in early childhood education, child psychology, sociology, family studies or elementary education (or closely related field) is preferred.
    • Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience for children 3 -5 years of age

    Special Requirements:

    • Required to obtain and maintain First Aid and Infant/Child CPR and Medication Administration certification
    • Required to continue teacher education/development as outlined in state licensing guidelines

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Working knowledge of child care and early childhood development and State of CT licensing policies
    • Must be able to relate in a positive and sensitive manner to children, their families and staff members
    • Be able to work independently and model developmentally appropriate practice
    • Ability to gain the confidence of parents and children in maintaining the best interest of the children at all times
    • Must possess strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the delivery of a quality preschool program
    • Ability to discuss programming, goals and curriculum with parents
