Position: Preschool Instructional Coach (PIC) / Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist (PIRS)

Location: Van Derveer Elementary School

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid New Jersey teacher certification in Early Childhood Education (preschool to grade 3).
  • Three (3) years of previous, successful teaching experience as a state certified preschool teacher.
  • Advanced knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
  • Skilled in instructional planning using data, research and theory to support instructional decisions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous instructional experience with The Creative Curriculum.
  • Experience with developing and presenting professional learning, as well as mentoring novice and/or experienced teachers.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regularly visits preschool classrooms, in the district and operated by the private preschool provider.
  • Models and coaches preschool teachers to support the implementation of the curriculum and preschool standards, as well as the support of teaching practices and skill development.
  • Provides instructional support to teachers for lesson planning and alignment, creating common formative assessments, instructional materials, focused interventions, data reports and analysis, team teaching, and modeling.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and administrators to review the planning, implementation, pacing, and effectiveness of curriculum and instructional practice.
  • Provides feedback to preschool teachers through informal observations using structured observation tools to provide feedback.
  • Manages program operational needs and conducts programmatic assessments in preschool classrooms.
  • Facilitates transition of students from pre-school to Kindergarten.
  • Maintains positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the administration, instructional staff, students, parents.
  • Assesses instructional strategies, classroom modifications, and learning materials.
  • Coordinates with school district special services departments and child study team members, when appropriate, to ensure seamless preschool programming.
  • Provides support and suggested interventions to preschool teachers, families and other preschool staff.
  • Recommends the selection of adaptive materials to address the needs of children with challenging behaviors or potential learning difficulties.
  • Provides professional development for all preschool staff members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Salary: The salary range is $73,349-$104,349 with placement on the guide is in accordance with the Somerville Education Association (SEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Click here to view the Teachers' Salary Guide.
