Preschool Instructional Coach (PIC)

Position Type: Full-Time (100% dedicated to PIC duties)

Reports To: Early Childhood Supervisor

Note: Per grant requirements, this position carries NO teacher, supervisory, or evaluator responsibilities.

Job Overview:

The Preschool Instructional Coach (PIC) provides embedded, non-evaluative professional development to preschool teachers. The PIC's primary goal is to maximize teacher efficacy, fidelity to the curriculum, and the use of data to drive daily instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Implementation: Provide direct coaching and modeling to teachers to ensure fidelity to the Connect4Learning (C4L) curriculum.
  • Assessment Coaching: Train and support teachers in utilizing the Teaching Strategies GOLD performance-based assessment system.
  • Data-Driven Instruction: Assist teachers in analyzing assessment data (such as Class Profile and Individual Child Reports) to plan effective small-group instruction and individualize learning experiences.
  • Classroom Evaluation: Conduct structured classroom observations using the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale - Third Edition (ECERS-3) to gather environmental data and shape ongoing professional development goals.
  • Inclusive Modification: Collaborate closely with the PIRS to help teachers modify daily routines (e.g., shortening Circle Time, incorporating sensory breaks) to ensure accessibility for students with disabilities.
  • Professional Development: Design and deliver comprehensive professional development for all preschool staff, including training on implicit bias and culturally responsive teaching.

Requirements (Based on standard NJDOE PEA Guidelines): * Valid NJ Standard Certificate in Early Childhood Education (P-3).

  • Minimum of 35 years of successful experience teaching in a preschool general education/inclusion classroom.
  • Deep knowledge of Teaching Strategies GOLD, ECERS-3, and project-based learning.
