Position Overview
The PreK 3 / PreK 4 Support Staff serves as a flexible team member who supports both students and teachers in creating a positive, engaging, and well-organized learning environment. This role is primarily assigned to either the PreK 3 or PreK 4 program and works closely with classroom teachers to support daily classroom operations, small group instruction, transitions, and preparation of classroom materials. The ideal candidate is adaptable, team-oriented, and willing to step in wherever needed to support the success of the preschool program.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
• Assist teachers with daily classroom activities, learning centers, rotations, and small group instruction
• Build positive relationships with students and become familiar with the needs of children within the assigned age group
• Support classroom routines, transitions, and supervision throughout the day
• Encourage student independence while providing developmentally appropriate assistance
• Reinforce classroom expectations and support positive behavior guidance strategies
Teacher Support
• Prepare classroom materials including cutting, copying, laminating, organizing, and setting up activities
• Assist teachers with projects, classroom organization, and special events
• Help maintain clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environments
• Support implementation of lesson plans and classroom activities as directed by teachers
Program Support
• Provide lunch break coverage for teachers as needed
• Serve as a substitute teacher when classroom coverage is required
• Assist with student supervision during arrival, dismissal, playground time, special activities, and school events
• Support the preschool team in meeting daily operational needs and staffing requirements
• Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist in various classrooms and situations as needed
Aftercare Responsibilities
• Assist with PreK 3 and PreK 4 aftercare programs at the end of the school day
• Supervise and engage students in age-appropriate activities
• Ensure a safe, positive, and caring aftercare environment
• Follow all aftercare procedures and expectations
Professional Expectations
• Develop positive relationships with students, families, and staff members
• Follow all Nashville Christian School policies, procedures, and confidentiality expectations
• Consistently implement preschool behavior policies and procedures
• Communicate professionally and work collaboratively with teachers and administration
• Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate a willingness to serve wherever needed
• Participate in required trainings and professional development opportunities
Qualifications
• Must be 21 years of age
• Experience working with young children preferred
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Flexible, dependable, and willing to adapt to changing needs throughout the day
• Passion for supporting young children and creating a positive learning environment
