Job Title: Pre-K Education Specialist

Salary Schedule: Certified; CHCCS Salary Schedule

Reports To: Pre-K/Headstart DirectorSalary Grade: Teacher, eligible for local supplementWork Location: Lincoln CenterFLSA Status: ExemptTerms of Employment: 11 Months Position SummaryTo provide oversight for the development, implementation, and fidelity of curriculum while providing ongoing coaching, mentoring, and guidance to staff to ensure high-quality programming within all PreK classrooms.Essential Duties

Curriculum Support

  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of Pre-K/Head Start educational curriculum including Tier one and Tier two classroom supports
  • Provides active feedback on lesson plan development and implementation
  • Coordinates, supervises, and monitors all educational activities in the Pre-K program inclusive of lesson planning
  • Leads, in collaboration with teachers and colleagues, the planning, organization and family outreach for program activities
  • Assess classroom needs and coordinates purchase requests as necessary
  • Monitors systems of student assessment (TSG) for fidelity and compliance and prepares assessment reports as required by the department, local, state and federal agencies.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and monitors assessments, screening, evaluations and educational plans for children
  • Support program self-assessment in classrooms with ECERS and CLASS observational tools, providing staff with follow-up reports and coaching

Program Administration

  • Cover, Support & Maintain required staffing patterns in classrooms (teacher: child ratios) in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and guidelines, North Carolina Pre-K guidelines and North Carolina daycare licensing and provides coverage as needed
  • Monitor PreK classrooms for compliance with licensing standards
  • Collaborates with Policy Council and other identified stakeholders to review Education Plan and conduct reviews and assessments
  • Provides leadership for the Educational Advisory Committee

Training and Professional Development

  • Takes the lead on design, development, revision, and implementation of the Teacher orientation and training process
  • Coordinates professional development to enhance instruction and classroom practices
  • Visits classrooms for routine assessment and provides modeling of best practices

Other

  • Explores grant opportunities and other funding increases to support the work of the PreK program
  • Attends regularly scheduled Pre-K/Head Start staff meetings, district coaches meetings, and others as needed
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interests with others in the field
  • Performs such other activities as may be assigned

Education/Experience Requirements

  • BA in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or Special Education
  • Four years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, (preferably in a Pre-K and/or Head Start setting)
  • Demonstration of successful supervision and understanding of curriculum design and implementation and data collection and analysis
  • Successful experience working with children, families in a diverse socio-economic setting
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
