Pre-K Assistant Teacher
Carlow University's Campus Laboratory School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Pre-K Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young learners. The Pre-K Assistant Teacher plays an essential role in fostering children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development while helping cultivate a classroom community that reflects the mission, Mercy values, and educational philosophy of Carlow University.
Working closely with faculty, staff, and families, the successful candidate will contribute to an innovative early childhood program that values curiosity, creativity, respectful relationships, and child-centered learning.
Essential Responsibilities
Support the development and implementation of engaging learning experiences based on children's interests and developmental stages.
Help create and maintain an aesthetically intentional, welcoming, and responsive classroom environment.
Observe, document, and assess children's learning through photographs, journals, portfolios, and other documentation methods.
Collaborate with teaching teams and families to support each child's academic, social, and emotional growth.
Incorporate materials and classroom provocations that encourage inquiry, dialogue, creativity, and experimentation.
Promote social-emotional learning and guide children through respectful conflict resolution.
Communicate regularly with families and participate in family engagement activities and events.
Participate in ongoing professional learning focused on Reggio Emilia-inspired practices, child development, and early childhood education.
Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children in the classroom.
Additional Responsibilities
Contribute to school-wide events and collaborative initiatives.
Support student transitions between classrooms or programs as needed.
Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and in-service training.
Assist with classroom organization, light cleaning, supply management, and ordering materials.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Certification (PreK–4).
Experience
Experience working in a preschool, Pre-K, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or other early childhood education setting.
Strong knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
Required Clearances
All required Pennsylvania employment clearances.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of child development and best practices in early childhood education.
Strong observational and documentation skills.
The ability to assess individual and group learning needs and adapt instructional approaches accordingly.
