Position Summary

The 6th-8th Grade Special Education Math Resource Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in mathematics. The teacher is responsible for implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), delivering TEKS-aligned instruction, and providing targeted interventions to help students achieve academic success. This role requires collaboration with general education teachers, data-driven instruction, and the ability to support students with diverse learning needs in a structured and supportive environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Intervention

  • Provide specialized math instruction aligned to students' IEP goals and grade-level TEKS.
  • Deliver small-group and individualized instruction to support student mastery of foundational and grade-level math skills.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in student IEPs.
  • Utilize research-based instructional strategies and interventions to support struggling learners.
  • Reinforce problem-solving, computational fluency, and mathematical reasoning skills.

IEP Implementation and Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals in collaboration with the ARD committee.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements.

Data Collection and Progress Monitoring

  • Use assessment data to guide instruction and intervention decisions.
  • Monitor student progress using benchmarks, classroom assessments, and progress monitoring tools.
  • Analyze student data to adjust instruction and intervention strategies.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and student success.
  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings, PLCs, and campus support meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and support strategies.

Classroom Environment and Management

  • Establish a structured, supportive, and positive learning environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies and routines.
  • Build strong relationships with students to encourage confidence and academic growth.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development related to special education and mathematics instruction.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Support campus goals and initiatives related to student achievement and intervention.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

Certification

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in Special Education
  • Math certification preferred

Experience

  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge of TEKS standards, IEP implementation, and intervention strategies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of middle school mathematics concepts
  • Knowledge of special education law and compliance requirements
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and implement accommodations
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Physical and Work Conditions
