Portland Public Schools is seeking an innovative, student-centered leader to serve as the Post-Secondary Programs Coordinator at Portland High School. This position will play a critical role in expanding and supporting post-secondary opportunities for students through Early Middle College (EMC), dual enrollment, work-based learning experiences, career pathways, and fifth-year completion programs.
The ideal candidate will possess experience in higher education, dual enrollment, Early Middle College, workforce development, or a related field and have a demonstrated ability to build partnerships that expand college and career opportunities for students. The successful candidate will build strong partnerships with local colleges, universities, businesses, and community organizations while coordinating programs that prepare students for success in college, careers, and beyond. This position will serve as the district's primary liaison for post-secondary programming and oversee the implementation and growth of opportunities that allow students to earn college credits, industry credentials, and meaningful workplace experiences while in high school.
Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (Masters Degree, preferred)
- Experience working in higher education, community college administration, student services, admissions, academic advising, dual enrollment, or Early Middle College programming (preferred).
- Knowledge of Michigan Early Middle College requirements, dual enrollment, and state-funded post-secondary programs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with college faculty, admissions offices, student support services, and workforce development agencies.
- Deep understanding of the transition from high school to college and the barriers students face in accessing post-secondary opportunities.
- Experience helping students navigate college readiness, enrollment, persistence, and completion.
- Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, staff, business partners, and post-secondary institutions.
- Knowledge of college and career readiness programs and initiatives.
- Experience working with students in a school or youth-centered environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and event-planning skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
The desired candidate would possess the following experiences and dispositions:
- Be passionate about helping students explore and achieve post-secondary goals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of college admissions, placement testing, financial aid processes, and post-secondary student success initiatives.
- Experience developing partnerships between K-12 schools and colleges, universities, or workforce training providers.
- Experience coordinating dual enrollment, Early Middle College, career pathway, or workforce development programs.
- Established relationships with local colleges, universities, and community organizations is preferred.
- Demonstrate innovative thinking and program development skills.
- Possess strong leadership and project management abilities.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, staff, colleges, and community partners.
- Advocate for equitable access to college and career opportunities for all students.

Essential duties and responsibilities of the position:
Postsecondary Program Development and Coordination
- Coordinate and oversee Portland High School's Early Middle College (EMC) and fifth-year student programs.
- Expand dual enrollment, Early Middle College, and career pathway opportunities for students.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local community colleges, universities, and training providers.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Portland Public Schools and post-secondary institutions.
- Collaborate with students, families, counselors, and administrators to promote awareness of available post-secondary opportunities.
- Monitor program participation, student success, and completion rates.
- Assist students and families in navigating post-secondary pathways and program requirements.
- Coordinate recruitment, enrollment, orientation, and transition activities for EMC and fifth-year students.
Work-Based Learning and Community Partnerships
- Develop and expand work-based learning opportunities, including internships, job shadowing, apprenticeships, and career exploration experiences.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, industries, and community organizations.
- Coordinate student placements and ensure compliance with all applicable requirements.
- Collaborate with employers to align student experiences with workforce needs.
- Promote career readiness and employability skills development for students.
Program Leadership and Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight for staff supporting post-secondary programming.
- Supervise and collaborate with the teacher assigned to support Early Middle College, dual enrollment, eLearning, and fifth-year students.
- Coordinate efforts to identify and support at-risk students participating in post-secondary programs.
- Collaborate with administration, counseling staff, and instructional teams to ensure student success.
- Supporting students enrolled in their first Early Middle College or dual enrollment courses.
- Providing mentoring and intervention services for students at risk of failing college coursework.
- Supporting fifth-year Early Middle College students working toward certificate and degree completion.
- Monitoring student progress in online learning environments, including PACE and Michigan Virtual courses.
- Communicating student progress and academic eligibility information with administration, families, and instructional staff.
- Developing systems to improve student success and persistence in college coursework.
- Designing and implementing early college readiness programming.
- Expanding supports that increase student readiness for college placement assessments and academic success.
Terms of Employment:
Contract: 200-day administrative contract (non-tenure, two-year term)
Salary: $63,000-73,000 based on experience, with full benefits as per the employment agreement.
