Pond and Sustainability Manager

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • · Will oversee the maintenance and continuing restoration activities of all Anchialine Ponds found at the Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort.
  • · Must be knowledgeable and able to teach remediation and maintenance efforts in Anchialine ponds and the surrounding habitat.
  • · Must be knowledgeable and able to teach how to properly use and maintain all equipment necessary to provide pond maintenance and installation at a professional level.
  • · Must be knowledgeable on the difference between Native versus Invasive plants in the Kona Village Area and be able to teach this knowledge to the team members.
  • · Must be knowledgeable of Anchialine Pond Faunal Species, Native versus Invasive, and able to identify them; and be able to teach this knowledge to the team members.
  • · Must know pesticide application techniques; and preferably be licensed in certified pesticide application.
  • · Must have an understanding of dredging and dewatering techniques.
  • · Will be responsible for appropriate record keeping and Daily, Weekly, and Monthly task scheduling.
  • · Will be responsible for reported related to Anchialine Pond Restoration and Maintenance, to include filling out appropriate reporting.
  • · Will use independent decision-making judgment to complete work assignments and to keep the crew moving forward on tasks in a timely manner.
  • · At times may need to lead public speaking and educational tour events
  • · Oversees proper Anchialine Pond & water management; and be familiar with historical and current water quality monitoring and marine community survey reports.
  • Maintain the natural resources and cultural sites on the resort. This includes the Loko I''a pond and irrigation lagoons, shoreline and agricultural operations. Activities will include irrigation support, shoreline defense strategy, elimination of invasive species, organic farming and propagation of native flora and fauna.
  • Through activities like interactive pond fishing (invasive species), organic farming, botanical, shoreline and technology tours for hotel guests, community groups and associates provide education and advocacy for sustainability efforts. Share knowledge with genuine aloha and grace. Participate and encourage others to support Rosewood Sustains and Rosewood Impacts initiatives including but not limited to a "green team", outreach and charitable groups.
  • Assist with monitoring, and reporting needs and issues for recycling, reducing or reusing waste within the resort, and support associates and contracted staff on the processes.
  • Establishing, implement and execute key sustainability initiatives within the hotel.
  • Optimize hotel processes to increase social impact, as well as operational sustainability and circular economy.
  • Internalize ownership and mobilize colleagues to meet impact goals and ensure successful project delivery, including but not limited to progress targets set by the Global Social Impact team.
  • Assist with project coordination and stakeholder management to support relevant hotel departments.
  • Collaborating with partners across multiple functions to support implementation of global targets and other initiatives.
  • Communications: Support the Brand and communications departments to tell the Social Impact story, making social impact a key communication factor across multiple channels.
  • Talent and Culture: Collaborate with the Talent and Culture team to educate and engage the team members on all aspects regarding Social Impact. Make the value and benefits of social projects known and visible to associates through engagement to deepen their affiliation to the Rosewood brand. Support the Talent and Culture team with cross-functional projects, such as the implementation of DEI strategy on property.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Engineering, Operations, Finance as needed to successfully drive progress.
  • Conduct ongoing in-depth data analysis of social impact key metrics related to the group's public social impact commitments and provide actionable recommendations to key stakeholders on property.
  • Report data to internal stakeholders on property as well as the Global Social Impact team on a regular basis and as requested.
  • Support the Global Social Impact team with any adhoc queries, including but not limited to research and climate and sustainability strategic advisory.
  • Lead the generation of customer insights reports and monitor market and industry trends related to social impact and sustainability to identify new opportunities.

CRITICAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year employment in Aquaculture and/or Sustainability Management, CSR or related work in the private sector or public institutions, an understanding of the hospitality industry and hotel processes is beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience in Aquafarming and Sustainability, fresh water and marine conservation, environmental conservation, waste management, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of facility systems and equipment, proper material and chemical handling and disposal: working knowledge of safety and health codes, electric and fire codes, etc. as it relates to the use and upkeep of various systems materials and products used throughout the property.
  • Technical Skills: Assist with the protection of Hawaiian Fishponds, Anchialine fishponds, native/local plant cultivation and horticulture, and oceanic shoreline, land and marine life preservation, and waste management.
  • General Skills: Strong people skills to interact and work with various stakeholders which includes hotel management team, community and guests. Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgement; following instructions thoroughly; understand a guest''s and team member''s needs; work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
  • Experience with water mechanical systems such as electric pumps and circulation piping.
  • Effective communication verbal and written skills.
  • Adapt easily to change.
  • Hands-on executor with proven success of breaking down high-level vision into clear action plans and following through the entire project execution process.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to support collaboration across departments and levels.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to simplify complex messages and adapt them to different internal and external audiences. Experience in strategic communications desirable.
  • Strong interest in the profits-with-purpose space.
  • Demonstrable experience in change management.
  • Experience in program/project design will be a plus.
  • Required to read speak and write English fluently - Hawaiian Language Speaking and Cultural knowledge is a plus.
  • Physical requirements: Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 50 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout work areas, be outdoors for long period of times, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guest''s and co-workers to their understanding

Salary: $75,000-85,000/annual
