SUMMARY:
We are looking for dedicated individuals to perform a variety of specialized office support, clerical and technical work in support of Police Department operations and services
This position is designed to be an entry level and trainee class within the Police Records Specialist series
Successful candidates in this position will receive continual training while gaining valuable on the job experience and opportunities to promote and grow your career within the organization
- This position requires working varying shifts, weekends and/or holidays - Applicants will be required to pass a polygraph, background and drug screening as part of the hiring process
MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
The following qualifications must be met by applicant at the time of application: Combinations of relevant work experience and education that are equivalent to the following are acceptable
Education: - High school diploma or equivalent Work Experience: - One year of increasingly responsible clerical support experience, preferably in a criminal justice agency
Certification: - Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification for inquiry within six months of hire
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, State certification for the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) within six months of hire
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Receives and processes a wide variety of police reports and records such as crime and traffic reports, juvenile and adult arrests, and various types of warrants, citations, and mug shots according to established guidelines; receives, logs, copies, and maintains warrants, information sheets, and case files; prepares records for scanning, microfiche, microfilm, etc
as appropriate
Accepts subpoenas Prepares, approves and releases requests while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations
Redacts sensitive information from reports and Body Worn Cameras (BWC) as required
Maintains a variety of records, files, and logs of criminal histories, warrants, subpoenas, citations, and related law enforcement information
Time stamps and prepares all incoming police reports, cases, and documentation; scans, validates, and performs quality control on a wide variety of police records, reports, and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, dispositions, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports; screen and process accident and offense reports; reviews and rejects reports that do not meet minimum requirements; copies and disseminates reports to appropriate staff
