Details at www.duq.edubenefits Location Public Safety Position Status Full-time Hours Varied Position Number 65642742-0031 FLSA Status Non-exemptPOSITIONSUMMARYThis is a responsible safety and security position reporting to the AssistantVice President of Public Safety involving considerable independentjudgment.The Duquesne University Police Department is an accreditedpolice agency accredited by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police which exemplifiesthe Community Oriented Police Model seeking foremost to prevent crime througha broad spectrum of interactions and programs within our Duquesne Universitycommunity. In addition to Duquesne University police officers possessing fullpowers of arrest and criminal prosecution.This is an armed Act 501 private police agency renderingcommunity service and law enforcement for our students faculty staff guestsand visitors. Being an important part ofa Catholic community our officers are required to act legally honestly morallyand ethically at all times. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Preserves the peace and resolves any conflicts within the University area.Conducts vehicular and foot patrols of university propertyand buildings.Takes all necessary andor appropriate measures to reducethe opportunity for criminal activity.Responds promptly andprofessionally to calls for service.Engages in activities that foster positive relations in day-to-dayinteractions with university community.Receives and responds to various emergency calls medicalemergencies fires alarms accidents criminal acts etc. and determinesproper response procedures providing care as a first responder in medicalemergencies and mental health crisis.Conducts preliminary investigations submits necessaryreports via the Automated Records Management System ARMS reacts to criminalactivity and makes arrests as appropriate by enforcing all applicable state andlocal laws.Attends court hearings as necessary.Facilitates the movement of vehicular traffic on universityproperty and enforces traffic and parking violations.Maintains and increases proficiency in police andinterpersonal skills by attending mandated training.Performs related duties as assigned.
