Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Police Department
HOURS OF WORK: 07:00 - 17:00 or 10:00 - 20:00, SSM or FSS off, during the training phase (FTO dependent). Upon successful completion of training, hours will be either 07:00 - 17:00 or 10:00 - 20:00, with SSM or FSS off based on the needs of the unit.
LOCATION: 303 K Street

Example of Duties
Under general direction, the Police Clerk is responsible for extensive contact with the public, both in person and over the phone. Maintain working knowledge of community, municipal, and internal resources and route citizens appropriately. Take reports of crime over the phone and compose formal department police reports. Type and compose routine correspondence, various reports, letters, memorandum. Extensive data entry. Research and enter data from police reports and citations into various computer systems, including but not limited to Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Records Management System (RMS). Coordinate with internal personnel and external agencies under time constraints to process arrests and charging documents. Perform cashiering functions and process all traffic citations. Process monetary entries for receipt of all monies for various types of permits, fees, reports. Provide court testimony as required. Perform other related duties as assigned.
All Police Clerks with five (5) years position seniority as Police Clerk shall be re-classed to a Senior Police Clerk.
Additional Information:
Reports to the Warrants Unit Sergeant. Performs data entry regarding misdemeanor warrants, court issued subpoenas, court issued summonses, and court issued stalking/protective orders. Conducts validation/audit processes through APSIN. Communicates extensively with APD Officers, the Alaska Court System, the Alaska District Attorney's Office, and the Municipal Prosecutor's Office. Conducts research to help Officers locate individuals in the community in order to serve court-issued orders. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of clerical office experience.
Must possess and/or obtain:
Satisfactory national criminal background investigation (13 AAC 85.010, and 13 AAC 85.210) and financial review at time of hire.
Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check at time of hire.
Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) and Anchorage Police Department standards regarding misdemeanor and/or felony convictions, traffic violations, and use of controlled substances.
Typing test at a net speed of 35 WPM at time of hire.
Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
Additional Important Information
Preference will be given to Anchorage Police Department (APD) employees. APD employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-APD candidates.
The APD Internal Selection Process will be utilized. The Internal Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:
Successful applicants will be invited to test. Testing will include satisfactory passing of a Nelson Denny Reading and Comprehension Exam. Current APD Employees who have previously passed, are exempt from the Nelson Denny Reading and Comprehension Exam.
The eligibility list for the Warrants Clerk assignment is good for one (1) year from the date following the conclusion of the selection process, when the Certified Eligibility List is published. Applicants must have completed any probationary period for their current position to be selected. An applicant that may meet the minimum qualifications during the life of this certification list but is currently ineligible due to probation, prior assignment or length of service is still encouraged to apply to be put on the eligible list for future consideration with a date of eligibility.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position requires Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) security clearance and access, and also FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance and access within thirty (30) days of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails to obtain these clearances and accesses within thirty (30) days of hire, he/she will be terminated.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicants Alaska Drivers License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Drivers License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory drug screen prior to beginning work.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current documentation/certification of the typing speed ability. The documentation/certification must contain the applicants name and be current within the past one (1) year.
All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
