Description

Position Summary

This position is a full-time Director of the CWC Police Academy and the Rocky Mountain Justice Academy (RMJA). The Director will be responsible for the administration of the CWC Police Academy, facilitating and coordinating any direct training through the RMJA, coordinating adjunct faculty teaching for the Academy, and coordinating with criminal justice faculty to maintain the academic integrity of the Academy. The Director will maintain Wyoming Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) certifications and ensure coordination with the agency.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administration of the Academy.
  • Explore potential funding and opportunities to provide direct training through the RMJA; and coordinate any related training events.
  • Recruit, seek approval of, and coordinate POST-certified adjunct faculty to teach at the Academy.
  • Coordinate with Criminal Justice faculty to maintain academic integrity within the Academy and facilitate alignment of the Academy with the criminal justice programs.
  • Create, implement, and teach in a POST-certified summer Mini-Academy.
  • Create, implement, and teach in a 2-week Academy Instructor training program.
  • Maintain the Academy's WY POST certification.
  • Become proficient in operating the FireArm Training Simulator (FATS).
  • Ensure budgetary procedures and budgets are properly maintained.
  • Ensure the fiscal responsibilities of the Academy.
  • Maintain cadet records as required by WY POST and CWC.
  • Repair, maintain, and/or replace Academy equipment and firearms as needed.
  • Share cadet information with other faculty, counselors, and POST when deemed appropriate, including progress reports, attendance records, etc.
  • Operate within the guidelines set forth in the College's policies, procedures and practices.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Position Specifications and Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Is or has been certified as a Law Enforcement Officer by WY POST or an equivalent agency.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred
  • An Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience with a willingness and ability to complete an AA within 1 year.

Experience

  • 10 years as a certified law enforcement officer

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current WY POST certification is preferred
  • For retired officers, 10 years of law enforcement experience as an active WY POST certified officer. A retired officer does not need to have a current WY POST certification.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Ability to become a POST-Certified Instructor for the Academy and potentially Criminal Justice courses.

Desired Qualifications

  • Retired law enforcement officer in good standing.
  • POST-Certified Instructor

  • Strong working knowledge of law enforcement operations and procedures.
  • General knowledge and understanding of law enforcement operations.
  • Profound understanding of CWC academic and college procedures.
  • Relate in a professional, helpful manner and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
  • Organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion.
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Supervise the work of others.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Effectively identify and resolve work-related problems
  • Promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both within the college and the community
  • Demonstrable ability to use personal computer software, preferably Microsoft applications
  • Serve on campus, community and division committees

Level of Supervision

  • Limited supervision by the Dean Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

Working Environment

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires lifting of objects weighing up to 20 pounds, use of protective devices, and ability to work at an elevated level.
