Department: FMC - Building Maintenance Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

Description:

The Plumber will install, maintain, and repair plumbing for domestic water lines, sewer systems, and other related areas throughout the campus, facilities, and grounds. Is subject to appointment on the campus hurricane ride-out crew.

Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

Duties:

  • Maintain all restroom, kitchen, and other facility-related plumbing in proper operation.
  • Maintain and repair sump and re-circulating pumps in building systems, and pumps in water fountains.
  • Repair, replace or oversee repair of underground water and sewer lines.
  • Maintain all fire hydrants, risers, hose reels, etc.
  • Maintain and repair all interior and exterior drinking fountains.
  • Repair and maintain all interior and exterior sewer lines.
  • Perform repairs on natural gas line systems.
  • Maintain the plumbing shop in clean, safe order.
  • Assist other craftsmen and perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in commercial or construction plumbing.
  • Journeyman's Plumber License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational/Trade School attendance.
  • Three or more years of experience in commercial or construction plumbing.
  • Master Plumber License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read blueprints and update as-built drawings after renovations.
  • Knowledge of all federal, state, and local plumbing codes and the ability to bring non-compliance items back to code.
  • Ability to assist a licensed fire sprinkler contractor.
  • Ability to prepare material take-offs for work orders and prepare detailed cost estimates.
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing and applicable NFPA codes.
