The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work settings range from clean indoor lab to unprotected outdoor environments. The employee frequently works with or around explosives. This involves handling packaged/boxed explosives as well as instructing customers in the proper use, storage, and transportation of these explosives. While rare, any accident could be catastrophic and potentially result in injury or death to many employees. The employee frequently works with powders, sometimes in a dusty environment and occasionally around fumes. Workers must not be overly sensitive (allergies, rashes, etc.) to working in these conditions.

Specific vision abilities that are required by this job include: close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements relate to obtaining a valid driver's license and recognizing current Hazmat warning labels or markings that are color coded.
