Summary:
This part time seasonal position is responsible for providing a leadership/supervisory role with the Summer Playground Program and reports to the Youth Program Manager. Leaders in Charge are assigned to a specific playground location and will be responsible for daily activities, managing staff, and overseeing participants. This program runs for 8 weeks from early June to August. Working hours will vary Monday-Friday from 8:45am-1:15pm and may include additional hours for preparation and planning throughout the week as needed. Select mandatory training schedule will be provided by the program manager.
Essential Functions
- Oversee day-to-day operations at pre-assigned playground locations including staff management and emergency protocols.
- Responsible for the Playground cell phone and other township equipment/supplies throughout the season.
- Act as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians and handle communications through the cellphone and playground email address.
- Plan weekly activities and create weekly newsletter.
- Ensure each participant is appropriately signed in and out each day.
- Ensure a safe environment for participants.
- Lead structured games, activities, and crafts independently and as part of a team.
- Ensure daily playground inspections and shift reports are completed.
- Handle, document and communicate any minor behavioral and medical issues with parents. Document and report major behavioral and medical issues to Youth Program Manager.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean environment and keeping supplies organized and accounted for.
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Ability to talk, hear, and see.
- Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingers.
- Occasional lifting of up to 15lbs.

- Provide direct leadership and instruction to participants and counselors.
- Effectively communicate with parents and participants in the program.
- Effectively communicate rules, guidelines, scoring, and possible scenarios of various games and activities.
- Communicate to children from grades 1-6. Speak clearly to large and small groups.

Required Education and Experience
- 1 Year Child Management experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program for childcare or education.
