They are looking for a Plating Department Manager to lead one of our most critical and proprietary operations - our electroplating department. For more than 60 years, has been an industry leader in precision-engineered metal bellows and electroformed components used in aerospace,
defense, medical, and industrial applications.
This is a key succession and leadership role designed to preserve and advance legacy plating processes. The selected candidate will work alongside our long-tenured plating expert to learn, document, and
ultimately take ownership of our unique electroplating operation - a capability that sits at the heart of our
business.
The Plating Department Manager will oversee daily plating operations, supervise the on-site chemist, and
collaborate with Engineering and Quality to ensure world-class precision and consistency. This individual will also drive continuous improvement, oversee wastewater treatment systems, and lead department personnel in achieving production and quality goals.
Essential Job Functions:
* Lead and manage all daily plating operations, including scheduling, production planning, and personnel
direction.
* Oversee and support the on-site Chemist in maintaining plating bath chemistry, testing, and analysis to
ensure consistent and high-quality results.
* Partner closely with Engineering and Quality to develop, validate, and refine plating 'recipes' for new
parts, prototypes, and continuous improvement projects.
* Maintain detailed records for plating baths, tank maintenance, and lot control; monitor process data to
maintain optimal plating windows.
* Plan and communicate weekly plating production outlooks and results through regular team meetings.
* Oversee wastewater treatment and recycling systems to ensure reliability, compliance, and
environmental responsibility.
* Lead, develop, and train plating personnel in technical and operational skills, fostering a culture of
accountability and safety.
* Track and communicate key performance indicators (yields, capacity, utilization) using Lean and GEMBA
methodologies.
* Proactively identify and implement opportunities for efficiency and process improvement.
* Participate in a structured knowledge transfer program with the current Plating Manager to ensure
seamless succession and preservation of proprietary know-how.
* Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
* Hands-on understanding of plating chemistry, processes, and equipment.
* Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems.
* Proven ability to plan, organize, and lead cross-functional manufacturing teams.
* Continuous improvement mindset with demonstrated Lean Manufacturing experience (5S, GEMBA, RCCA,
etc.).
* Strong analytical ability; capable of interpreting data and identifying process trends.
* Experience setting, tracking, and improving performance metrics (KPIs).
Salary Range $100,000 - $120,000
* Must have a Bachelor"s degree in Manufacturing, Chemistry, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or related field).
* Must have 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience in plating or chemical processing.
* Must have experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100
* Must have experience with Continuous Improvement.
* ERP system experience (Infor VISUAL or similar) preferred.
