About the Role:

The Administrative Support II (Plant Relief Operator) position is responsible for the technical operation of state-of-the-art advanced wastewater treatment/biosolids handling facilities for the City of Greensboro, NC. The wastewater plant operator operates critical treatment processes on an assigned shift in compliance with internal and external procedures, guidelines, statutes, and laws. The successful candidate will perform assigned treatment plant rounds by inspecting, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance testing, and documenting plant processes by reading plant equipment gauges, dials, graphs, online analyzers, computer screens, meters, and other instrumentation. This position also operates and adjusts treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders, and other equipment to maintain appropriate plant operations. The operator will maintain, compile, and update plant operational logs and reports, as well as perform and record mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities. The operator is also expected to add treatment chemicals, collect and document liquid and solid samples, and perform a variety of process control routine laboratory tests by working closely with the laboratory. The plant operator will perform general plant facility maintenance, such as cleaning plant facilities, and will perform various grounds maintenance duties as required.

  • Limited Hours: Employees in roster positions may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours within a 12-month period.
  • No Pension Eligibility: These roles are not eligible for membership in the city's pension system.
  • This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of work experience in maintenance & repair of wastewater, water, or industrial equipment
  • Grade 1 Biological Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification (or ability to obtain within 18 months)

Preferred Qualifications

  • NC Grade 1 (or higher) Biological Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification or equivalent certification from another state that has a reciprocity agreement with the Association of Boards of Certification
