Maintenance And Repair Manager

Under general direction, is responsible for managing, planning, organizing, and coordinating the maintenance and repair of plant mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment; performs related duties as required.

  • Plans and manages the maintenance of all plant equipment and machinery systems; plans and implements a comprehensive computerized plant preventative maintenance program using the department approved computerized maintenance management system (CMMS);

  • Directs and designs machine and building modifications as needed;

  • Supervises maintenance supervisors involved in the repair of plant equipment and machinery; supervises the operation and personnel of the machine shop and maintenance facility; supervises building maintenance personnel;

  • Assigns work and reviews work assignments with supervisors to ensure priorities are being observed;

  • Inspects work in progress and completed work for conformance to established standards, specifications, and instructions;

  • Compiles contract specifications for materials and services; evaluates and recommends bid proposals for materials and services; researches equipment alternatives;

  • Coordinates personnel transactions, overtime, vacation schedules, and leaves of absence to ensure adequate staffing; recommends personnel for appointments to vacant positions; develops job performance standards and conducts performance appraisals on employees supervised;

  • Collaborates with plant personnel to ensure maintenance activities sustain the operational readiness of the plant facility;

  • Ensures functionality of mechanical plant equipment to include reviewing data and assessing system information available by viewing the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system (e.g. wet wells, tanks, pumps);

  • Investigates complaints concerning the conduct of workers; investigates employee problems and complaints; conducts investigative meetings and recommends disciplinary actions for violations of rules;

  • Inspects and reports on the work performed by contractors;

  • Ensures and maintains inventory control of parts for maintenance and repair based on knowledge of equipment operation, equipment manuals, and manufacturer's recommended requirements; ensures the completion of annual asset and parts inventory;

  • Directs the collection of data to be used in determining annual costs and budget projections of maintenance operations; monitors and controls expenditures to ensure expenses do not exceed budget allocations; evaluates key performance indicators (KPIs), level of service (LOS) and other metrics related to plant maintenance activities through the CMMS;

  • Ensures subordinate personnel are in compliance with safety policies and procedures; ensures subordinate personnel receive appropriate safety training;

  • Writes technical reports and maintains files;

  • May work around hazardous chemicals and noxious odors.

Completion of the twelfth school grade and three (3) years of experience supervising employees engaged in the maintenance and repair of industrial plant equipment. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade requirement. Possession of a valid driver's license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439. The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice Training and Experience Evaluation weighted 100%. The exam is expected to be administered in August 2026. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
