Project Engineer (Direct Hire)
Location: Linden, NJ (Onsite)
Employment Type: Full-time Permanent
Salary: $170,000 – $190,000/year + Annual Performance Bonus
Relocation: Not currently offered, but may be considered if local candidates are unavailable.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday Day Shift, with occasional weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.

Brief Summary for Recruiting:

Seeking an experienced Plant Engineer / Project Engineer to support the Linden Cogeneration Plant, a 980 MW natural gas combined-cycle power plant located within the Phillips 66 Refinery in Linden, New Jersey.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in power plant operations, maintenance, reliability engineering, and project management. This individual will lead engineering initiatives aimed at improving plant reliability, safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlant Engineering & Reliability

  • Monitor forced outages and perform root cause analysis.
  • Analyze plant performance data to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Manage predictive maintenance programs (vibration analysis, air leakage monitoring, etc.).
  • Investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Oversee water treatment programs.
  • Support outage planning and execution.
  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and technical records.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, ASME, and industry regulations.

Project Management

  • Manage capital improvement and strategic projects.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, contractors, and vendors.
  • Prepare and evaluate RFPs and bid packages.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities.
  • Serve as backup to Maintenance and Operations Managers when required.

Required QualificationsEducation

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering preferred, OR
  • Extensive experience in power generation operations/maintenance in lieu of an engineering degree.

Experience

  • Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of combined-cycle power generation systems.
  • Knowledge of NERC and FERC compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing or supporting plant engineering projects.

Preferred Skills

  • PMP certification or project management experience.
  • Experience with PI Systems and CEMS/DAS.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including macros.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.

Certifications/Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a TWIC Card.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass drug screening and physical examination.
