Planning and Inspections Director
Candidates are responsible for directing a department responsible for land use planning, development, zoning, building code enforcement, community development, and permitting functions for the County
Duties also include serving as technical advisor to the County Manager, Planning Board, Board of Commissioners and other advisory boards
An employee in this class will have extensive public contact, and the work requires a variety of technical and detailed knowledge, and considerable independent initiative and judgement
The employee works to ensure that well-planned and orderly growth and development occurs through proper ordinances and programs, thereby making efficient use of the Countys land and resources
This position is considered essential and requires reporting to work for inclement weather and as other needs arise within the division
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from a four (4) year college with a degree with course work in planning or a related field; and/or five years experience in public sector planning with supervisory experience
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of land use planning in North Carolina, community and economic development, and public sector planning
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community groups, federal, state, regional, and County officials, and the general public
Possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License
