Job Title: Piping Engineer (Remote)

Job Description

This role focuses on the design, analysis, and qualification of piping systems for nuclear power and related industrial facilities. You will prepare and review engineering calculations, ensure compliance with relevant piping and pressure vessel codes, and support nuclear design change processes. The position offers the opportunity to work on facility upgrades, improvements, and modifications for nuclear power plant projects within a highly reputable engineering organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review calculations to develop engineering designs for piping systems in nuclear and industrial applications.
  • Perform code qualification calculations in accordance with ASME B31.1 and ASME Section III codes, including Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 stress code qualification calculations as applicable.
  • Develop and verify specifications for piping, valves, and related components to ensure compliance with project and code requirements.
  • Use engineering/design software such as ME101 and AutoPIPE to perform piping analysis, including normal, thermal, dynamic, vibration, and seismic response spectrum analysis.
  • Perform nozzle stress qualifications and coordinate with component or vessel design activities when required.
  • Support the development of calculations and drawings for pipe hangers, snubbers, spring cans, and linear supports.
  • Prepare complete and accurate documentation, including calculation packages, reports, and design deliverables, using strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Participate in field engineering and construction assignments, including performing site walkdowns and verifying as-built conditions.
  • Support and follow nuclear design change processes, including the Standard Design Process, to implement modifications safely and compliantly.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients and contractors, to resolve technical issues and progress project deliverables.
  • Apply knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ASME Section III Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code and ASME B31 series (with emphasis on B31.1), to all design and analysis work.
  • Contribute to a consulting engineering environment by providing analysis and engineering support for commercial nuclear and other industrial clients.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of progressive engineering experience with commercial, industrial, or government clients.
  • Experience in piping design and analysis for nuclear power or related facilities, or strong interest in nuclear applications.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including ASME Section III Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code and ASME B31 series (B31.1 preferred).
  • Proficiency with engineering/design software such as AutoPIPE and ME-101 for piping stress and flexibility analysis.
  • Ability to perform piping analysis for normal operating conditions, thermal loads, dynamic effects, vibration, and seismic response spectrum analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Experience or familiarity with nuclear power design analysis and nuclear facility environments.
  • Ability to support nuclear design change processes and work within a structured, regulated engineering framework.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; licensure in any U.S. state is acceptable.
  • Prior experience working on or with nuclear facilities is preferred.
  • Experience with additional stress analysis or FEA software such as ANSYS or GTStrudl is a plus.
  • Experience with SuperPipe and Plant 3D or similar piping design tools is desirable.
  • Experience with laser scanning for as-built data capture is a plus.
  • Experience preparing calculations and drawings for pipe hangers, snubbers, spring cans, and linear supports is advantageous.
  • Progressively responsible commercial nuclear experience in analysis or engineering is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a consulting engineering environment or with a utility is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with nuclear power, nuclear design analysis, and related industry standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and other plant design tools for piping layout and modeling.
  • Experience with dynamic analysis methods, including Time History analysis, is a plus.

Work Environment

This position supports nuclear power plant and industrial facility projects focused on upgrades, improvements, and modifications. The role offers the potential for a long-term contract or a 6‑month contract-to-hire arrangement, providing flexibility for both short- and longer-term engagement. The role is open to 100% remote work anywhere within the United States, with a preference for candidates based in Illinois, Georgia, Mississippi, or states with client sites such as North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, or Arkansas. You will work in a professional engineering environment that uses advanced analysis tools such as AutoPIPE, ME101, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and FEA software like ANSYS or GTStrudl. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and interaction with large, well-known clients in the nuclear power industry are integral parts of the role, providing exposure to complex, high-impact projects and a culture that values technical excellence and innovation.
