WHO WE ARE

We are VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading end-of-life care provider since 1978.

Our hospice organization kickstarts careers in caring, promotes from within and provides a nationally recognized best-in-class employee experience.

Backed by industry-leading experts and an expanding network of programs in 15+ states, VITAS empowers team members to grow toward their goals while transforming patients’ lives.

VITAS team members help patients navigate the end of life with dignity, comfort and peace — ensuring every moment matters.

WHO YOU ARE

You are a medical or osteopathic practitioner licensed by the state in which you plan to work.

In addition to being board-certified or board-eligible in hospice and palliative medicine, internal medicine, family practice, or a related specialty, you should be familiar with the principles of hospice and registered with the DEA.

You keep patient welfare at the center of everything you do, giving your best each day to extend comfort and dignity to all people at the end of life’s journey.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a hospice physician, you will partner with interdisciplinary teammates to provide VITAS patients and families with high-quality care at the most challenging point in life.

Through a combination of inpatient rounds and in-home visits, you will use your compassion, communication skills and deep expertise to build meaningful relationships with your patients and the people who love them.

You will see the person behind each prognosis and create care plans centered around the patient’s wishes, needs and beliefs, often working in concert with the patient’s primary care physician.

You will advocate for all patients with a strong sense of commitment, discussing goals for their care while addressing their hopes and fears.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK

You will split your time between regular rounds in an inpatient unit (IPU) — a hospital-like environment in a fixed location — and home visits to patients who choose to receive hospice and palliative care in a private residence, assisted living facility or skilled nursing facility.

Both environments come with support from an interdisciplinary team of hospice and palliative experts — nurses, aides, chaplains and social workers.

In the IPU, you’ll collaborate with teammates who work in that environment each day. Outside of it, you'll lead a weekly meeting with the teammates who assist in the home-visit portion of your practice

About the Company

V

VITAS Healthcare

VITAS Healthcare®, a pioneer and leader in the hospice movement since 1978, is the nation’s largest provider of end-of-life care. Our name is derived from the Latin word for “lives” and symbolizes the VITAS mission: to preserve the quality of life for those who have a limited time to live.

Headquartered in Miami, Florida, VITAS operates hospice programs in 15 states and the District of Columbia. VITAS has enjoyed dynamic growth since its founding as a volunteer organization by a United Methodist minister and an oncology nurse. Today, VITAS employs 11,773 professionals who care for terminally ill patients daily-primarily in the patients’ homes, and also in the company’s inpatient hospice units as well as in hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living communities/residential care facilities. VITAS team members include registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, home health aides, physicians, social workers, chaplains and other caregiving professionals.
