Job Summary

Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams in providing diagnostic and therapeutic services. This role supports patient-centered procedural care delivery and diagnostic workflows in both GI and Musculoskeletal services.

The Troy Medical Campus will be University of Michigan Health's first clinical presence in the Oakland County market. We are building a state-of-the-art specialty care campus in the heart of Troy where a deeply human commitment to personalized care will come together with world-class expertise, cutting-edge therapies, and a legacy of more than 175 years of transformative research to help patients and families in Oakland County and beyond find their Michigan Answers. The campus will feature two outpatient facilities with over a dozen specialty programs, including Cancer services, Musculoskeletal/Sports Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine, as well as a surgery/procedure center, comprehensive imaging services, laboratory, pharmacy, and therapy services. The campus is conveniently located near I-75, surrounded by popular shopping and dining, and features free parking, on-site cafe, with facilities committed to sustainable, environmentally responsible practices.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities GI Radiology

• Provide comprehensive clinical and procedural support within primary specialty.

• Coordinate activities of the GI Radiology service, including pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure patient care.

• Perform and/or assist with diagnostic fluoroscopic procedures including but not limited to:

• Upper GI studies, esophagrams, small bowel follow throughs

• Feeding tube placement (Dobhoff, NG) under fluoroscopy and bridle placement

• Tube injections (G, GJ) and drain assessments

• Barium enemas, defecography

• GU procedures (cystogram, VCUG, hysterosalpingogram, fistulogram, etc.)

• Conduct patient assessments including focused history and physical exams prior to procedures and during follow-up.

• Assess prior imaging studies.

• Provide telephone triage and evaluate case appropriateness for procedures.

• Write pre- and post-procedure notes, orders, dictate orders, and perform appropriate documentation in the EMR.

• Assign standardized protocols and contrast material for fluoroscopic exams.

• Provide patient education for post-procedure care, including tube management.

• Collaborate with nursing and clinical teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.

• Assist in quality improvement initiatives and development of procedural metrics.

• Support operational workflows including scheduling coordination and equipment/inventory management.

• Participate in clinical research initiatives as applicable.

Responsibilities Musculoskeletal Radiology

• This position assists musculoskeletal radiology physicians in performing guided image procedures including joint aspirations and soft tissue/bone biopsies
• Within the physician-APP relationship, the Interventional Radiology Advanced Practice Provider exercises autonomy in the medical decision making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• This will include managing patients with complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions. APPs within this classification function with a high level of autonomy within their delegated scope of service, including a high volume of independently performed image-guided procedures within their delegated scope of practice.
• Collection and assistance in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies

General Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services with a high level of autonomy within scope of practice
• Perform patient assessments including history and physical examinations
• Document care in the electronic medical record
• Provide patient education and follow-up care
• Participate in quality improvement and operational initiatives
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Required Qualifications*

• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
• Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
• Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• State of Michigan Controlled Substance License
• DEA registration
• AHA Approved BLS
• ACLS
• 2+ years of radiology experience

Desired Qualifications*

• 2 years of PA experience
• Experience with fluoroscopic, ultrasound, or CT-guided procedures
• Familiarity with radiology workflows and imaging technologies
• Experience with quality improvement, patient safety, or workflow optimization initiatives
• Ability to mentor trainees or support education
• Experience with procedural sedation workflows
• Potential for participation in research or data collection initiatives
• Strong clinical, procedural, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently
• Professional demeanor and ability to work with diverse patient populations

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

32 hours per week. Primarily day shift at Troy/Forbes Imaging Center. Onboarding time may require training in Ann Arbor, Brighton, and/or Northville locations.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine (UPAMM), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
