Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Hillcrest is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic Spine Surgery team in Waco, Texas.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative surgical practice supporting patients throughout the full continuum of care, including pre-operative evaluations, surgical support, post-operative management, inpatient rounding, and outpatient clinic visits. The ideal candidate will have prior surgical experience and a passion for providing high-quality, patient-centered care in partnership with an experienced physician team.

  • Dedicated operating room responsibilities four days per week

  • One dedicated clinic day with approximately 20 patients

  • Collaborative physician and APP team environment

  • Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative patient care

  • Support surgical procedures and inpatient management

  • Prior surgical experience required

Schedule

  • Monday: Operating Room (morning), Clinic (afternoon)

  • Tuesday: Operating Room

  • Wednesday: Clinic (approximately 20 patients)

  • Thursday: Operating Room

  • Friday: Operating Room

Role Responsibilities

The Physician Assistant - Surgical Specialty provides direct patient care within the scope of practice established by the supervising physician. This role supports surgical patients through evaluation, treatment planning, procedures, and follow-up care in both outpatient and hospital settings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform comprehensive and focused patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations.

  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.

  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic studies.

  • Prescribe medications and recommend treatments within scope of practice.

  • Assist with surgical procedures and perform procedures appropriate to training and delegated privileges.

  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient management.

  • Round on patients in the hospital and provide specialty consultation as needed.

  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and recovery.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

Experience

One or more years of Physician Assistant experience

Prior surgical experience required

Licensure & Certifications

Current Physician Assistant license to practice in the state of Texas

Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer
