Job Description

GENERAL OVERVIEW This position will work with Developmental Pediatric patients daylight hours possible on-call responsibility no weekends or evenings. This job is an integral part of the care delivery system working together to provide a healing environment by placing our customers first. The incumbent provides primary healthcare services for non-acute or chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies values and mission of the organization within the Physician Assistants scope of practice. Work is performed in a physician office or offices dedicated to Pediatrics weekend and on-call coverage on a rotational basis as required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides appropriate pediatric patient care to include recording patient medical history and physical assessment developing therapeutic care plan ordering lab and diagnostic tests interpreting test results and providing accurate medical record documentation.
  • Establishes presumptive diagnosis as defined in the written agreement between the PA-C and the supervising physicians.
  • Communicates and coordinates patient care with patient family community health services and interdisciplinary team. Involves attending physician regarding plan of care and involves physician in clinical decision making of any issues that are outside the PA-C knowledge base or scope of practice.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care and coordinates periodic evaluation by physicians as defined in the written agreement between the PA-C and the supervising physicians.
  • Prepares written prescription orders for drugs as defined in the written agreement between the PA-C and the supervising physicians.
  • Educates patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention medication and treatment instructions and recommends community resources as needed. Serves as clinical expert and acts as a clinical resource.
  • Triages pediatric patient telephone calls provides monitoring and continuity of care.
  • Participates in develops and implements performance and/or quality improvement initiatives. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • May perform other duties such as manage outpatient concerns and any other duty specific to specialty.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Current PA Physician Assistant License
  • PA-C or board eligible. Ongoing successful recertification NCCPA as a PA-C within 90 days of hire
  • CPR - American Heart Association
  • PALS certification
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Substitutions

  • Four to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required (Nurse Practitioner)

  • MSN from the practicing State Board of Nursing Approved Masters Program
  • National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioners through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), National Certification Corporation (NCC), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)
  • Practicing-state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Prescriptive Authority from the practicing state Within 60 days of hire
  • Drug Enforcement Agency Licensure Within 60 days of hire
  • CPR - American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Preferred

  • Experience in Emergency or Critical Care setting
