Client is seeking qualified and experienced Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) professionals to provide special education-related therapy services to students across district schools. The district serves approximately 2,050 students across elementary, middle, and high schools within the Four Corners region of New Mexico.
The district is seeking pediatric-focused therapy professionals experienced in working with students with disabilities, IEP-driven therapy services, evaluations, parent collaboration, and school-based therapy support.
The PTA will provide direct therapy services aligned with student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), support evaluations and assessments, participate in IEP meetings, collaborate with staff and parents, and assist with student mobility and therapy goals in compliance with state and federal educational standards.
The ideal candidate will possess strong pediatric and school-based therapy experience, excellent collaboration skills, and experience working with children with disabilities within educational settings.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Student Therapy Services
• Provide direct physical therapy services according to student IEP requirements
• Coordinate therapy schedules consistent with school calendars and student needs
• Assist students in improving mobility, physical functioning, and participation within educational settings
• Maintain therapy documentation and student progress records
Educational Evaluations & Assessments
• Participate in educational evaluations and diagnosis support
• Assist with:
o Instrument administration
o Interpretation support
o Student evaluations
• Support comprehensive written reports and therapy recommendations
IEP & Collaboration Activities
• Participate in student IEP meetings
• Collaborate with:
o Teachers
o Related service providers
o Administrators
o Parents/guardians
• Coordinate services for students identified by IEP teams or Student Assistance Teams
Consultation & Training
• Provide consultation and training support as requested by district administration
• Participate in staff coordination activities
• Support therapy-related guidance for school personnel and families
Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure therapy services comply with:
o New Mexico Public Education Department standards
o District policies
o State and federal special education regulations
• Maintain active New Mexico licensure throughout contract duration
• Provide updated license renewals as required
Materials & Equipment
• Provide own testing kits, therapy materials, and professional resources required for services
Must-Have Qualifications
• Current New Mexico PTA License
• Current New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) Licensure with endorsement
• Experience working with:
o Children
o Pediatric populations
o Students with disabilities
• Strong understanding of:
o IEP processes
o School-based therapy services
o Educational evaluations
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to pass fingerprinting and criminal background checks prior to assignment
• Professional liability insurance required
• Ability to work onsite within district schools
