Physical TherapistPurpose StatementThe job of Physical Therapist is done for the purposes of assessing students physical development level providing appropriate quality treatment to meet individualized student objectives removing barriers to students educational environments in order to improve their ability to access their education and increase functional independence and providing recommendations for program development and student placement.This job reports to Director of Special Services or designee.Essential FunctionsAdvises students parents and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.Assesses evaluates and determines students gross motor and development skills e.g. gait balance muscle strength transferability motor planning coordination etc. for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations.Assesses students functional capabilities and home andor classroom environment for the purpose of determining students functional level and developing recommendations andor placement.Communicates with students parents teachers andor other personnel for the purpose of evaluating situations solving problems andor resolving conflicts.Consults with teachers parents physicians appropriate staff other personnel andor outside professionalsagencies for the purpose of providing requested information developing plans for services andor making recommendations.Coordinates with community agencies including medical judicial social service and mental health services for the purpose of determining appropriate treatments etc. to meet the needs of specific students.Develops motor reinforcement programs which may include motion positioning mobility etc. for the purpose of increasing students ability to receive a quality educational program.Develops implements and maintains caseload information and schedule for the purpose of ensuring that goals are achieved.Facilitates meetings processes IEP meetings etc. for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines andor ensuring that State and Federal mandates are achieved.Implements school wide program development and program evaluation e.g. crisis intervention services goals related to function and access to educational environment etc. for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience physical mental social or emotional difficulties.Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.Orders appropriate equipment as needed for the purpose of increasing student access to educational environments.Participates in the development of students IEP goals and objectives for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.Participates in continuing education meetings workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying andor gathering information required to perform functions and maintaining best practice of physical therapy.Prepares a wide variety of written materials and documentation e.g. quantity reports student activities correspondence internal audits etc. for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and conveying information documentation according to State of Wyoming Practice Act as well as Federal and District guidelines.Presents information for the purpose of communicating information gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.Provides interventions using Evidence Based Practice on direct consultative or collaborative basis at physical therapists discretion with input from the IEP team for the purpose of supporting or enhancing a students educational program according to the Wyoming Physical Therapy Practice Act.Removes barriers to the students educational environment e.g. determining and recommending appropriate equipment education of appropriate staff in equipment use modifications and adaptations to environment and school-based activities for the purpose of improving the students ability to access hisher education and increase independence.Researches resources and methods e.g. intervention and treatment techniques assessment tools and methods community resources etc. for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students functional goals.Screens students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment.Supervises and trains interns practicum students appropriate staff and others e.g. carryout transfers complete motor programs mobility use of equipment incorporating appropriate body mechanics for the purpose of monitoring performance providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of schools curriculum and achieving overall goal of student safety.Trains appropriate related staff to carry out transfers complete motor programs assist with occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Generally the job requires 40 sitting 20 walking and 40 standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Education Master&rsquos degree in job-related area.
