Job Summary
The Physical Therapist Assistant, under the direction of a physical therapist, is responsible for assisting with performing tests and providing restorative and rehabilitative physical therapy services to participants both at the center and at home. The goal is to maximize participant independence and safety while developing or restoring function. The assistant will collaborate with other members of the rehabilitation team to implement the plan of care established by the physical therapist. This role requires effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders to promote team culture and mission.
Job Responsibilities
- Administer participant treatment programs as established by the physical therapist.
- Assist in obtaining vital signs, range of motion, and strength testing.
- Coordinate with the rehabilitation team to implement activities and programs based on individual treatment plans.
- Handle scheduling of participant treatments, clinical visits, and billing.
- Deliver and document physical therapy interventions in accordance with established care plans, including the use of devices and techniques to promote muscle re-education, perceptual-motor and cognitive function, balance, and endurance.
- Provide training and instructions to staff, participants, and caregivers/families in the use and care of therapeutic equipment.
- Track and manage maintenance for equipment.
- Remain alert to input from team members, participants, and caregivers, updating the physical therapist promptly of any changes in participants' condition or functional status.
- Participate in end-of-life care coordination and support under supervision.
- Ensure legal authorization to practice in the location required.
- Act within the scope of authority to practice.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
- Protect privacy and maintain confidentiality of procedures and information about team members, participants, and families.
- Follow policies and procedures and participate in required quality improvement activities, staff training, and meetings.
- Communicate regularly with the supervisor and team regarding workload and priorities.
- Complete all mandated trainings and education timely.
- Complete all mandated physical health screenings as needed.
- Exercise flexibility in performing assignments as business needs evolve.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of two years of experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to treat frail, elderly participants with complex needs.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, able to execute tasks in a quickly changing environment, and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience and competency working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Commitment to unlocking the full potential of vulnerable seniors.
Schedule Notes
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. On-site for three days and off-site for two days, with possible additional on-site days as needed. Off-site work includes mobile visits to participant homes for treatments, equipment setup/training, and some telehealth. Responsibilities also include scheduling recurring appointments and maintaining the rehabilitation gym.
