Job Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant, under the direction of a physical therapist, is responsible for assisting with performing tests and providing restorative and rehabilitative Physical Therapy services to participants at the Center and at home to maximize participant independence and safety and develop or restore function. The Physical Therapist Assistant will work with other members of the rehabilitation team to implement the plan of care established by the physical therapist. The Assistant collaborates effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to promote team culture and mission.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administer participant's treatment programs as established by the Physical Therapist.
  • Assist Physical Therapist in obtaining vital signs, range of motion, and strength testing.
  • Coordinate with other members of the rehabilitation team to implement activities and programs based on the participant's individual treatment plans.
  • Handle scheduling of participants' treatment, clinical visits, and billing.
  • Deliver and document Physical Therapy interventions in accordance with the Physical therapist's established care plans, including but not limited to the use of devices, techniques, and activities to promote muscle re-education, perceptual-motor and cognitive function, balance, endurance, and other factors affecting the level of independence in performing ADLs.
  • Provide training and instructions to staff, participants, and caregivers/families in the use and care of therapeutic equipment.
  • Track and manage maintenance for equipment.
  • Remain alert to pertinent input from other team members, participants, and caregivers, and update the Physical Therapist/IDT promptly of any changes in participants' condition or functional status.
  • Participate under the supervision of a Physical Therapist in end-of-life care coordination and support.
  • Be legally authorized to practice in the position location, required.
  • Only act within the scope of his or her authority to practice.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Protect privacy and maintain confidentiality of all company procedures and information about team members, participants, and families.
  • Follow company policies and procedures and participate in any required Quality Improvement activities, staff training, and meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with Supervisor and team regarding workload and priorities.
  • Timely completion of all mandated trainings and education.
  • Timely completion of all mandated Physical health screenings as needed.
  • Exercise flexibility in performing assignments as business needs evolve.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years' Physical Therapy Assistant experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.
  • Physical Therapy Assistant knowledge and skills necessary to treat frail, elderly participants with complex needs.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, able to execute tasks in a quickly changing environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience and competency working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Required Education

  • Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an Accredited Program.
  • The qualifying Physical Therapy Assistant Degree earned outside of the US must be evaluated to the US equivalent to a Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Valid California Physical Therapy Assistant License
