Job Summary

Burlingame Intermediate School is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to join our collaborative middle school team. This unique full-time position offers a diverse instructional schedule designed to keep students engaged and active. The ideal candidate will teach a 6-period daily schedule consisting of 3 periods of core Physical Education, 2 periods of PE elective Courts, Sports, & Team Play, and 1 period of our unique non-PE elective, Think Tank. We are looking for an educator who fosters an inclusive environment, promotes lifelong health and wellness, and connects exceptionally well with middle school students across both physical and academic settings. Key Responsibilities & Duties Core PE Instruction (3 Periods): Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, CA State Standards-aligned physical education curriculum that promotes physical literacy, teamwork, and healthy habits for middle schoolers. PE Elective: Courts, Sports, & Team Play (2 Periods): Instruct two periods of this specialized elective, focusing on advanced game strategies, sportsmanship, and diverse court and field sports to keep students active and engaged. Non-PE Elective: Think Tank (1 Period): Facilitate one period of Think Tank, a dynamic academic elective designed to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, or project-based learning (tailored to student needs and teacher strengths). Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured environment in the gym, on the fields, and within the traditional classroom setting. Assessment & Inclusivity: Utilize diverse assessment methods to track student progress and differentiate instruction to ensure all students-regardless of athletic ability-can succeed and feel valued. Credential: Valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education. EL Authorization: English Learner Authorization (CLAD/CTEL) required. Experience: Previous experience teaching at the middle school level is highly preferred. Key Attributes: Strong communication skills, excellent organizational ability, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine passion for guiding early adolescents.
