JOB TITLE: PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER ELEMENTARY
JOB SUMMARY: The successful candidate will provide instruction to develop motor skills and physical development among children promoting habits that students will need to participate in physical activity outside of the physical education class and skills they will need for a lifetime of physical activity. The Physical Education teacher works to promote teamwork through classroom lessons, advance the abilities of students in physical achievement, and foster strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination through individual, dual, and team activities and sports, in accordance with each student's ability.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Michigan teaching certification with appropriate endorsement in Physical Education (MB) or Health and Physical Education (MC) or Health, Physical Education and Recreation (MX) required.
- BA or BS including all courses to meet credential requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other professionals and works successfully in teams and departments.
- Above average recommendations from student teaching supervisors and other professionals who have knowledge of the candidate's teaching ability.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching physical education to elementary students.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):
- Prepares lesson plans and establishes course goals consistent with the district curriculum and the Michigan Curriculum Standards and Benchmarks in the area of physical education.
- Works closely with fellow teachers to integrate physical education within other core academic subjects being taught.
- Selects appropriate materials, equipment, and physical education supplies for course.
- Demonstrates method and procedure to pupils and offers support and modeling for ongoing improvement.
- Observes and evaluates pupils' work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
- Establishes and maintains communication with parents using a variety of means.
- Works with students to encourage the development of physical and health skills.
- Establishes and monitors a student management system that allows for a learning environment that is conducive to effective teaching and learning.
- May direct planning and supervision of student contests and school activities.
- Works with students with diverse abilities and teach students with disabilities by differentiating lessons for a variety of learning and ability skills.
