Our healthcare organization is actively seeking a dynamic, highly skilled, and customer-focused Consulting Phone Console Operator. This vital role is responsible for handling a high volume of incoming calls to our medical centers, providing critical information to patients, and dispatching emergency response personnel as needed. The successful candidate will be a key player in our operations, ensuring smooth and efficient communication across all departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Answer and redirect an average of over 1 million incoming telephone calls per year to the UCLA Medical Centers.
  • Provide accurate patient information, department information, and on-call schedule information as requested by callers.
  • Process both routine and emergency calls, activating and dispatching emergency response personnel for all hospital and ambulatory areas during emergencies and disasters.
  • Handle calls for Faculty Answering Service clients and provide overflow call support for the ISS Customer Care line.
  • Monitor and report on various Emergency Alarm Systems and triage and report all Elevator Malfunctions.
  • Process urgent messages for the Radiology Department regarding Critical Test Results.
  • Adhere to all customer service initiatives, departmental and hospital policies, including operational, technical, and emergency protocols.
  • Take on additional tasks and duties as requested by management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a similar role, hospital switchboard/PBX operators preferred.
  • Excellent customer service, listening, attention to detail, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels, speak clearly and distinctly, and use proper English.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high call-volume setting, prioritize and multi-task several duties simultaneously.
  • Ability to identify and escalate priority issues and remain calm and effective during emergency situations.
  • Ability to work on a self-directed basis with minimal supervision and adapt to evolving departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and night shift when necessary.
  • Proficiency in operating a PC and navigating the internet, as well as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Call center experience preferred.
