Phlebotomist is responsible for the accurate and timely (as defined by Quality Improvement Indicators) collection, labeling, processing and delivery of patient specimens to the laboratory.  Processing functions include timely retrieval of specimens from transport systems, verification of sample receipt in LIS, centrifugation and other pre-analytic steps, including use of automated track system. Order entry of laboratory tests into LIS. Responsible for processing of samples to a referral laboratory.


Required Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiar with use of LIS

Required Experience

Required

  • Phlebotomy Technician I or II Licensure from CA DHS (After 1/1/07)
  • LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH only)

Preferred

  • 1-year experience as a Phlebotomist in a hospital laboratory environment
