The Store Associates are responsible for delivering an exceptional buying experience to customers, ensuring that service, food, and car wash standards are consistently met. This role involves efficiently operating each shift in accordance with company policies, providing quick and friendly customer service, and maintaining the highest quality standards in a welcoming environment. The Sales Associate role applies to first, second, and third shift employees, whether full- or part-time, and reports directly to the store manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES BY COMPETENCY: (bolded text denotes an essential function of the position)
Business Results Orientation
- Accurately account for all cash income, including register funds, credit/debit cards, lottery/lotto, car wash sales, vacuum income, and record any cash variance in accordance with cash handling policies
- Maintain a clean and visually appealing convenience store, including the lot and bathrooms
- Ensure all vendors are properly checked in according to company policy and complete all transactions through the register as per company guidelines
- Ensure store merchandise is properly stocked on shelves and in coolers
- Increase food sales and monitor food waste by tracking food logs and following trends
- Adhere to all city, county, and state health department regulations
- Work diligently to correct safety deficiencies in a timely manner
- Inform the Supervisor or Manager of unsafe conditions and behaviors, recommending corrective actions
- Follow food service protocols, including temperature logging, food rotation, and proper disposal of expired food
- Observe shift operating hours at all times and follow the posted work schedule unless a change is arranged with the Supervisor
- Accurately post hours worked on the computer and sign all necessary documentation
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to designated safety practices
- Follow all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Policy/Training Manual or other guidelines

Communication
- Assist the supervisor in meeting daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and information requirements
- Ensure all communications with customers, suppliers, vendors, and co-workers are professional and appropriate
- Advise the Supervisor of any personnel situations or policy violations that negatively impact store operations
- Ensure the Supervisor is informed of all sales, cash, or operating discrepancies, food hazards, equipment issues, and food log discrepancies, and report any sales and/or waste that is out of range in a timely manner
- Communicate both positive and negative customer feedback
Customer Service Orientation
- Meet all customer needs efficiently and effectively by providing superior customer service

- Use suggestive selling techniques, such as sampling, and educate customers that our food is prepared fresh and locally daily

- Educate team members on products and procedures during shifts
- Complete checklists, including logs and prep work for the next shift
- Report to work in a clean company uniform and in accordance with appearance standards, including appropriate headwear as defined in policy

- Promote food sales throughout all store operations
- Offer each customer a proper close by thanking them or inviting them to return
- Execute a complete transaction, including a suggestive sell and counting back the customer’s change

- Set an example for other employees that aligns with the company’s mission statement
- Strive to improve personal and team performance in suggestive sales techniques, especially with food sales
- Complete required training to meet regulatory compliance and company guidelines

Technical Expertise
- Operate the cash register and complete all necessary paperwork efficiently and accurately
- Adhere to all city, county, and state regulations regarding age-restricted products and health department standards
- Complete shift cleaning checklists for both inside and outside responsibilities
- Perform regular maintenance checks to ensure proper performance of all equipment
- Follow all company cash handling, safety, and security policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain knowledge of how to change gas prices after receiving information from the Manager or Territory Manager
- Check equipment for proper performance and advise the Supervisor immediately of any maintenance problems
- Maintain an understanding of store food equipment and how to service and maintain it
- Adhere to all Wallis Companies safety policies and report all safety incidents to the supervisor immediately
