Job Title: Pharmacy Floor TechnicianJob Description

This role is a hands-on Pharmacy Floor Technician position responsible for accurately filling, labeling, scanning, and preparing prescriptions for final verification by a pharmacist. You will support pharmacy operations by handling medication orders, packaging products, and maintaining a clean and organized workstation while adhering to all applicable regulations and departmental policies.

Responsibilities

  • Fill daily drug orders accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Pick medications from shelving and other medication storage areas, including prepack racks, ensuring correct drug and quantity selection.
  • Prepare finished prescriptions by labeling, scanning, and organizing them for final verification by a pharmacist.
  • Assist in processing returned drugs and recycle or dispose of medications according to established procedures.
  • Prepack frequently ordered medications, label them properly, and store them as needed during low-volume periods.
  • Package materials and products manually, following standard operating procedures and quality standards.
  • Apply labels to blister cards and scan products to verify accuracy, correcting or reporting any discrepancies.
  • Alert the pharmacist on duty immediately when any medication or product does not scan properly or appears incorrect.
  • Maintain designated workstation areas in a clean, orderly manner and replenish all stock supplies as needed.
  • Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
  • Work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required or expected to support pharmacy workload demands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy operations.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to work at a moderate, steady pace while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Possess and maintain a clear and active Florida Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician status.
  • Pharmacy filling experience, including order entry, filling, and labeling.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Basic understanding of insurance and prior authorization processes in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong manual dexterity and finger coordination to operate office and pharmacy equipment.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous pharmacy technician experience in any setting.
  • Experience in long-term care pharmacy is a plus.
  • Mail-order pharmacy experience is a plus.
  • Experience working in healthcare environments with a focus on accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Comfort working with prescription order entry systems and pharmacy-related technology.

Work Environment

This position follows a set schedule of Monday through Friday from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, with work every other weekend from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Overtime, holidays, and additional weekend hours may be required based on operational needs. The role involves working in a pharmacy environment where you may sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the day and may sit or stand for 7 to 10 hours per shift. You will regularly use office and pharmacy equipment that requires finger dexterity and fine motor skills. The job may require lifting up to 25 pounds on occasion. Visual acuity is important, including close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus to read fine print on labels and documentation. You must be able to hear normal voice sounds to communicate effectively with colleagues. The workspace includes designated workstation areas and medication storage shelving, and you are expected to comply with departmental safety standards, attendance expectations, and dress code guidelines while working in a structured, regulated healthcare environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
