Pharmacy Technician

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacist in delivering safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy services to patients of Health Care Partners of South Carolina. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists with prescription processing, medication preparation, inventory management, patient service, and administrative duties while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations. This position plays an important role in supporting patient access to quality pharmaceutical care and promoting positive health outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Assist pharmacists with the preparation, packaging, labeling, and dispensing of prescription medications in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

·         Receive, enter, and process prescription orders accurately using the pharmacy management system.

·         Verify patient demographic, insurance, and prescription information to ensure accurate medication processing.

·         Assist patients with prescription refills, medication pick-up, billing inquiries, and general pharmacy questions while providing exceptional customer service.

·         Maintain accurate patient records within the pharmacy management system and Electronic Health Record (EHR).

·         Coordinate with providers, nursing staff, insurance companies, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate timely prescription processing and resolve prescription-related issues.

·         Monitor medication inventory, receive shipments, rotate stock, and assist with inventory control to maintain appropriate medication and supply levels.

·         Identify medications requiring replenishment and assist with ordering and inventory management.

·         Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment in accordance with state and federal regulations.

·         Support quality assurance activities and assist with medication recalls, audits, and regulatory inspections.

·         Maintain patient confidentiality and protect health information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

·         Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and continuing education activities.

·         Travel between Health Care Partners of South Carolina pharmacy locations as needed.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

·         High school diploma or equivalent required.

·         Current South Carolina Pharmacy Technician registration in good standing required.

·         Minimum of two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.

·         National Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification preferred.

·         Experience working in a retail pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy, community health center, or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) preferred.

·         Experience using pharmacy management software and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Knowledge of pharmacy operations, prescription processing, medication safety, and inventory management.

·         Knowledge of applicable federal and South Carolina pharmacy laws, regulations, and HIPAA requirements.

·         Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills with a commitment to providing patient-centered care.

·         Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

·         Proficiency in pharmacy management software, Microsoft Office, and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

·         Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists, providers, and healthcare team members while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.

·         Ability to maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of patient information.

Physical Requirements

·         Ability to perform the essential functions of the position in a pharmacy environment.

·         Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements throughout the workday.

·         Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.

·         Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.

·         Ability to work in an environment with exposure to medications and protected health information while adhering to established safety and HIPAA standards.
