Job Description
Are you a detail oriented paramedic who is passionate about patient safety and operational excellence? Join the Chesapeake Fire Department as a Pharmacy Paramedic, where you'll play a vital role behind the scenes in supporting emergency medical services across the City.
This position oversees the department's pharmacy program by managing the procurement, storage, inventory, distribution, and accountability of pharmaceuticals, controlled substances, intravenous fluids, and medical supplies used in emergency response. As the Pharmacy Paramedic, you'll help ensure firefighters and paramedics have immediate access to the medications and supplies they need to provide lifesaving care.
Working in a fast paced, mission driven environment, you'll maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, Virginia Board of Pharmacy requirements, DEA standards, and departmental policies while supporting inventory management, quality assurance, and regulatory readiness. Your work directly contributes to the department's ability to deliver safe, efficient, and high quality emergency medical care to the community every day.

Required Qualifications
Vocational/Educational Requirement: Requires High School Diploma or GED/HSE and formal training, special courses, or self-education equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in EMS, paramedical, pharmacy, or a closely related field. Associates degree is preferred.
Experience: In additional to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one-year full time (or equivalent) Advanced Life Support experience at the EMT-Paramedic level with an emergency medical services agency (911 response).
Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Current Virginia Paramedic certification.
Special Requirement(s): Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive. As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing. This drug test includes testing for marijuana. Possession of a medical marijuana card will not excuse an applicant from the testing process; however, a test will not be considered positive for marijuana if a valid medical marijuana certification is presented unless the position requires a commercial driver's license (CDL) or is a sworn law-enforcement officer/deputy.
