Job Summary and Qualifications

 The Pharmacy Clinical/Operations Specialist is responsible for participating and leading pharmacy clinical or operational programs. This includes monitoring patient medication regimens and providing appropriate interventions. The Clinical Specialist shall also assist in mentoring pharmacy staff and students and assist in the evaluation and implementation of clinical/operational programs.

Job responsibility include but not limited to:

  • Interpret orders and transcribes or verifies them accurately and efficiently into the pharmacy computer system
  • Accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals
  • Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug -drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies and appropriateness of drug and dose
  • Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed
  • Sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing nonformulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and promotes rational drug therapy selection
  • Provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients
  • Lead and develop pharmacy clinical services such as drug consults, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulant monitoring, pain management, IV to PO, renal dosing and other programs as defined by Pharmacy Leadership. Develop, manage and mentor antimicrobial management program (AMP
  • Prioritize work and lead others to comply with facility medication turn-around time policy and procedure. Identify areas for improved efficiency. Assist in implementation of process changes.
  • Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely. Responsible for mentoring and education as well as ongoing analysis of interventions to insure accurate and appropriate documentation and provide summary reports.
  • Complete drug utilization reviews to promote rational drug therapy and implement improvements identified
  • Effectively and proactively intervene in conflicts between pharmacy and medical staff regarding drug therapy issue resolutions.
  • Assists with staff performance reviews
  • Acts as manager in charge as assigned by the Pharmacy Director
  • Supervise and assist pharmacy technicians and other support staff effectively.

EDUCATION

  •  B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy, a Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 1 year of Advanced Clinical Pharmacist experience OR at least 5 years of pharmacy experience with knowledge of and proficiency in general clinical and/or pharmacy operations including regulatory compliance required.
  • Completion of PGY1 or PGY2 Residency OR Specialty BPS certification preferred

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

  • Board of Pharmacy Specialist certification preferred
  • Active Registered Florida State Board of Pharmacy license, as per State requirements, in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy
