Job Title: Pharmacy Clerk

Job Description

This role supports a high-volume pharmacy operation by accurately filling prescription requests in a fast-paced production environment. Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Clerk prepares, packages, sorts, and distributes medications while maintaining a continuous workflow to meet daily production goals. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to perform repetitive tasks with precision, and the flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Manually fill prescription vials with prescribed tablets and capsules, ensuring accuracy in medication type, strength, and quantity.
  • Retrieve and process Unit-of-Use and bulk medication items from labeled shelves for order fulfillment.
  • Read computer-generated screens to locate indicated medications, verifying the size and strength of products before filling orders.
  • Replenish medications in automated dispensing cells to full capacity, including opening large quantities of bottles and cases of product.
  • Use basic mathematical reasoning to count or calculate the appropriate number of units needed to fill prescriptions.
  • Operate handheld scanner units to scan product barcodes for replenishment and inventory accuracy.
  • Demonstrate problem resolution skills by recognizing issues, addressing them when possible, and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain focus and acute attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Maintain the pharmacy floor in a clean, organized, and orderly condition.
  • Understand and follow federal and state HIPAA laws, as well as pharmacy standard procedures, to ensure patient safety and privacy.
  • Process orders for shipping, including folding and packing paperwork and attaching shipping documentation.
  • Support packaging of prescriptions, including specialty medication coolers, to ensure proper handling and shipment.
  • Assist with order entry, data entry, and medication refill processing as needed.
  • Provide general pharmacy support, including administrative support, filing, and inventory-related tasks.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy technicians and other team members to support efficient workflow and high-quality service.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and Outlook, for data entry, documentation, and communication.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and consistently carry 20-30 pounds of merchandise.
  • Ability to select and lift objects from shelves and carry them to the order filling line.
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously for an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to perform frequent bending, twisting, reaching, grasping, and pinching.
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Visual acuity to read computer screens, handheld scanners, and medication labels.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy operations and professional standards.
  • Good computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain excellent attention to detail and a strong quality focus.
  • Ability to provide customer service and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in a production environment.
  • Ability to handle adversity and ambiguity with a positive attitude.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in pharmacy support functions such as order entry, filling, data entry, and medication refill processing.
  • Experience with inventory, logistics, and administrative support in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • Pharmacy technician certification.
  • Experience with pharmacy technician customer service.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications for data entry and administrative tasks.
  • Experience with Excel data entry.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom or controlled environment.
  • Micro-fulfillment or automated pharmacy operations experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong detail orientation and commitment to accuracy in repetitive tasks.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position based in Lake Mary, FL, in a climate-controlled pharmacy and production environment. The role involves working in a fast-paced setting that may include automated dispensing equipment, handheld scanners, computers, and standard office software such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook. The hours of operation are from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and scheduled shifts for this role may fall between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Breaks typically include a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks, which are scheduled and not flexible. The position requires continuous standing and walking, frequent lifting and carrying of 20-30 pounds (up to 50 pounds on occasion), and regular bending, twisting, reaching, grasping, and pinching. The environment emphasizes quality, accuracy, safety, and teamwork, with a strong focus on maintaining a clean, orderly pharmacy floor and supporting consistent production workflows.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
