Job Summary and Qualifications

The Free-Standing Emergency Department (FSED) Pharmacy and Supply Manager is responsible for managing the pharmacy and supply operations and team members to ensure safe and effective medication and supplies availability, distribution, storage, security and control. Responsibilities also include ensuring receiving, ordering, and prompt distribution of all medication and supplies within the facility, reviewing and maintaining all Min/Max levels for storeroom safety stock as well as all other stocking locations including automated dispensing cabinets. The manager will also create, facilitate and enforce policies and procedures, quality assurance and regulatory compliance in conjunction with the technicians and key stakeholders. The FSED Pharmacy and Supply Manager fulfills departmental responsibilities within the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the division and hospital, complying with all regulatory standards. The manager will work with the VP Pharmacy Services, HealthTrust Chief Operating Officer and Director of Pharmacy to identify and develop processes to meet or exceed all regulatory standards. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Register with the State Board of Pharmacy as the Consultant of Record for FSED locations if required  
  • Ensures that the FSEDs are in compliance with JCAHO requirements, Drug Enforcement Administration, State Board of Pharmacy, hospital policies and procedures, and other Federal and State regulations.  
  • Participates in all quality and regulatory reviews and audits, and resolves any gaps found timely and accurately  
  • Maintain appropriate controlled substance records. Work with the Pharmacy Directors to identify and develop standardized processes to meet or exceed all controlled substance diversion prevention and monitoring standards.  Participate in controlled substance reviews and audits.  
  • Responsible for the development, review, and enforcement of applicable policies and procedures for FSED  
  • Supervises the FSED technicians servicing the FSED pharmacy and supply responsibilities  
  • Maintains staffing needs for the FSED team to meet the service and regulatory level needs of the FSEDs  
  • Leads and project manages the opening and/or closing of FSEDs to completion; to include licensure, equipment ordering and set up, staffing, regulatory, operational needs, etc  
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the legal responsibilities of the pharmacist to the facility and all state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services  
  • Effectively and accurately provides education as needed to healthcare professionals, students, patients or the public as needed  
  • Creates and proactively maintains formulary of medications and supplies in line with company finance, operational, and safety guidance’s 

 Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's of Science or Pharmacy Doctorate from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy Required  
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the legal responsibilities of the pharmacist to the facility and all state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services Required  
  • Three years acute care hospital, supervisory, or leadership experience Preferred  
  • Experience leading offsite locations of acute care hospitals Preferred 

Licenses, Certifications and Training: 

  • Consultant Pharmacist (Florida Only) Required  
  • Pharmacist Required
