The Ambulatory Care Clinical Specialist in Infectious Diseases (ID) is an Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner who works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive medication management for ID patients. Responsibilities include:
The Pharmacy Specialist in ID achieves positive patient outcomes through disease management guided by established protocols, promotes adherence, and enhances satisfaction among both patients and providers as evidenced by outcome evaluations. Following updated clinical guidelines, such as those from the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and Cedars-Sinai's P&T-approved protocols, the specialist initiates, adjusts, or discontinues therapies, orders and interprets lab results, and authorizes medication refills. Additionally, this specialist educates patients about specialty medications and serves as a clinical resource for physicians and support staff. They also help develop and maintain clinical pathways, best practices, protocols, competency assessments, and support ongoing quality improvement efforts.
