Pharmacists completing this PGY1 residency will be competent practitioners of direct patient care in an acute care environment. As members of the health care team, they will be accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes in a variety of acute care patients including internal medicine, infectious diseases, critical care, oncology, and pediatric patients. The resident will develop and exercise skills in educating other health care providers and patients. They will develop leadership skills by taking an active role in medication safety and performance improvement efforts. The resident will demonstrate professional maturity by exhibiting a commitment to the profession, and developing a mechanism for personal life-long learning. The PGY1 resident will report to the PGY1 Residency Program Director.

  1. Graduation from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree

  2. Be eligible to apply for a pharmacist licensure in the State of California prior to the entrance into the program. CA pharmacist licensure is required by September of the residency year

  3. Complete a personal, on-site or remote interview with the interview panel, director of the residency program and current PGY1 resident(s).

  4. Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations.

  5. ACLS certification from the American Heart Association ideally within the first month of residency program start but no later than September of the residency year.

  6. Successful completion of the pre-employment process, including but not limited to verification of all required licenses and certifications, meeting the U.S.Office of Inspector General requirements and proof of a legal right to work in the United States.

  7. Successful completion of a post-offer physical exam, which includes a physical and a TB test.

  8. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards relative to pharmacy practice.

  9. Ability to actively participate in a teaching and training program.

  10. Ability to work independently and follow-through on assignments with minimal supervision.

  11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  12. Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining data files.

  13. Demonstrated skill and ability in communicating on a one-to-one basis in order to obtain information, explain protocols and/or policies and procedures.

  14. Demonstrated ability to speak in front of large groups to present didactic course material or scientific data.

  15. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret current scientific literature.

  16. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform pharmacokinetic calculations.

  17. Demonstrated ability to identify, retrieve and compile selected information from patientsxe2x80x99 medical records for the purposes of evaluating appropriateness, effectiveness, predicted outcome and risks for toxicity.

  18. Demonstrated skill and ability to provide, communicate and document drug information on pharmacological agents concisely to health professionals, patients and other lay individuals.

  19. Demonstrate excellent time management skills.
