Personal Care Aide (PRN) Department: Memory Care Center Reports To: Assistant Director of Memory Care Center FLSA: Non-Exempt Compensation: $19 Hours: 630 PM – 630AM or 630AM – 630PM Position Summary: Wesley Manor Retirement Community is hiring for a Personal Care Aide. The Personal Care Aide’s primary responsibility is to provide compassionate and personalized care to individuals with memory impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia. This position is crucial in ensuring the safety, well-being, and comfort of the residents under your care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists in delivering high-quality care services in a professional, compassionate, and courteous manner while respecting the dignity and individuality of each person who comes in contact with the organization.
- Provides daily hygiene care according to the policy and procedures, including bathing, dressing, nail, oral, and peri care, while encouraging the resident to maintain as much independence as possible.
- Assists in meeting resident activity needs, including one-on-one and group activities when not providing personal care or when there is downtime.
- Assures that residents are clean and neatly dressed and that faces and hands are clean before and after meals and snacks.
- Maintains optimal compliance of residents by scheduling toileting according to the assignment sheet and reviewing the toileting log.
- Performs restorative nursing functions by encouraging the resident’s independence in ADLs.
- Maintains optimal hydration and nutrition of the residents by offering fluids between meals and assisting with meals and snacks.
- Assures that oral care is performed daily, i.e., brushing teeth and cleaning dentures. This may include performing these tasks for the resident if they are unable or do not understand how.
- Takes the initiative to ensure that all resident needs are met whether or not that resident is assigned to you.
- Provides protection and physical support to residents while in bed or chair, on commode, ambulating, transferring or being transported by strict adherence to safety standards and following the assignment sheet.
- Maintains confidentiality of the resident’s medical information at all times per HIPAA laws.
- Communicates effectively and courteously all resident or visitor concerns or incidents to the Shift Supervisor promptly.
- Completes all assigned care for the residents by the end of the shift and reports the status of care to the Shift Supervisor before leaving.
- Responds to residents promptly and courteously throughout the shift.
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Adheres to all Resident Rights
- Maintains confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Reports known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
- Ensures that resident’s right to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints are followed.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience as a Personal Care Aide, preferably working with memory care residents.
- Must demonstrate patience and compassion, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in working with residents with memory impairments.
- Must demonstrate sufficient emotional maturity to effectively deal with the demands of the job.
- Must be self-motivated, be able to take initiative and effectively use problem solving skills.
