Job Title: Laboratory Technologist – Point of Care (Evening Shift)
Location: San Leandro, CA (Remote Mobile Laboratory Setting)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and process specimens via venipuncture or capillary methods, ensuring specimen integrity and proper documentation.
  • Receive specimens from phlebotomists and couriers, verifying specimen quality and documentation.
  • Enter patient demographics, specimen details, and test orders accurately into the laboratory information system.
  • Operate and troubleshoot point-of-care laboratory instruments, including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, and Coagulation analyzers, ensuring optimal instrument performance and maintenance.
  • Monitor reagent levels and perform quality control checks on all testing procedures, ensuring results are within acceptable limits.
  • Perform waived laboratory tests in accordance with CLIA regulations, reporting accurate patient results while confirming abnormal or unusual results with supervisory staff.
  • Manage and prioritize STAT testing to meet turnaround time goals, ensuring rapid and reliable results.
  • Document quality assurance activities and maintain compliance with regulatory standards, including tracking lot numbers and quality control records.
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering supplies as necessary, and ensuring storage conditions meet regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to instruments or computer systems, escalating as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure consistent performance.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper handling of biological hazards, blood-borne pathogens, and hazardous materials.

Qualifications:
  • Relevant certification or licensure in medical laboratory technology or a related field.
  • Proven experience with point-of-care testing and specimen collection.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems and quality control procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in testing and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to a mobile testing environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical ability to perform specimen collection, lift up to 15 pounds regularly, and work in various settings, including patient homes and healthcare facilities.

Physical and Work Environment:
  • The role involves working in environments where biological hazards, hazardous substances, and infectious materials are present. Appropriate training and safety protocols are provided.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and the ability to handle equipment and specimens are required.
  • May need to push or pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more, with assistance when available.
